Rick Perry in 2012: He must think the Beltway is a toll road
The well-coiffed Republican governor of Texas, a Tea Party favorite for his social and fiscal conservatism, said Friday that he will consider a run for president in 2012.
Perry, the nation’s longest-serving governor, first ran for office on the platform of building hundreds of miles of toll roads in the state. Trouble is, everyone hated that plan and it crashed and burned after building only a fraction of the toll roads. And the ones that got built — Texas 130, for example — are lonely stretches of unused pavement.
Maybe he thinks he can apply toll road logic to national policy, nickel-and-dime-ing America’s problems away.
